The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) is a labor union that represents 1.2 million hard-working men and women in the U.S. and Canada. We are a 501(c)(5) nonprofit organization that believes in the power of ordinary people coming together to improve their lives and make a lasting difference for all working people.

The UFCW is headquartered in downtown Washington, D.C. but staff work closely with local unions to organize and support our members across the U.S. and Canada.

Open Positions

Admin Support Specialist, Strategic Retail


The Administrative Support Specialist performs administrative support and general secretarial duties for the National Strategic Retail Department and the Retail Stores Division. The Administrative Support Specialist performs various duties related to the SAP Concur expense management system. The incumbent must be able to work with minimal supervision and to exercise independent judgment in the prioritization of their responsibilities and the work organization.


Senior Communications Strategist, Campaigns – Communications Department


This position will conceive, develop, plan, and implement comprehensive and diversified strategic communications, media, and messaging strategies to support UFCW’s objectives. This position assesses communications capacity across UFCW International campaigns and affiliates and develops strategies to improve communications effectiveness. Works closely with Director and Assistant Director, Campaigns to ensure UFCW communications programs and messaging are implemented effectively in the field.


Industrial Engineer

As assigned by the Director, the Industrial Engineer services local unions by conducting time studies and job evaluations to assist in settling grievances.


Lead Developer

The Lead Developer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and providing technical oversight of UFCW’s web-based application portfolio. This is a senior individual contributor role requiring deep full-stack experience, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to operate independently in a small, mission-driven organization. The incumbent must be comfortable inheriting systems, making and defending technical decisions, and working directly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Region Office Secretary – Region 6

The Region Office Secretary performs the clerical secretarial, administrative and business detail for the Region Director, and Executive Assistant.


Senior Political Coordinator

The Senior Political Coordinator in coordination with local unions, is responsible for building out electoral, legislative, fundraising and activist programs under the direction of the Director.

The Senior Political Coordinator also assesses candidate viability, priority races, and meets with potential

candidates to ensure they understand UFCW’s issues in collaboration with local unions. This position is also assigned to work with locals on building out their electoral programs and legislative priorities.  

U.S. Payroll Staff Accountant

The U.S. Payroll Staff Accountant processes U.S. payroll and prepares financial reports by applying accounting principles within the Accounting Department. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations while maintaining alignment with both U.S. and Canadian payroll regulations.
