Who We Are

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) is a labor union that represents 1.2 million hard-working men and women in the U.S. and Canada. We are a 501(c)(5) nonprofit organization that believes in the power of ordinary people coming together to improve their lives and make a lasting difference for all working people.

Why UFCW?

As the largest private sector labor organization, we are looking for candidates to join our team who will bring innovative methods and cutting edge ideas to help grow our diverse membership base, support workers’ rights and brand the UFCW as the union for workers in the grocery, retail, packing and processing, health care, cannabis and winery and distillery industries. The UFCW is headquartered in downtown Washington, D.C. but staff work closely with local unions to organize and support our members across the U.S. and Canada.

Open Positions

Accounting Clerk I

The Accounting Clerk I is responsible for executing accounting clerical duties that include filing, data entry, and routine reconciliation and analyses for the Accounting Department.


Administrative Support Specialist

The Administrative Support Specialist performs administrative support and general secretarial duties to the Communications and Digital Departments. The incumbent must be able to work with minimal supervision  and to exercise independent judgment in the prioritization of their responsibilities and the work organization.


Administrative Support Specialist (Organizing/Collective Bargaining)

The Administrative Support Specialist performs administrative support and general secretarial  duties for the Food Processing, Packing and Manufacturing Division and Retail Stores Division. The Administrative Support Specialist performs various duties related to the SAP Concur expense management system.


Assistant Director Occupational Safety and Health Office

The Assistant Director provides support to the Director to carry out the safety and health operations of the OSH office. The OSH office collaborates with UFCW Departments and Divisions to integrate workplace safety and health into the work they do with an emphasis on UFCW-growth related activities.


Director – Data and Analytics Department

Provides leadership to facilitate integration across all levels of the UFCW in close collaboration with UFCW’s Director of Information Technology.  Solve issues by having a universal approach to the concept of people, process, and technology each contributing to the success of the organization.


General Organizer – Digital Department

The General Organizer encourages union membership to non-union workers by providing information on union benefits and employees rights, to achieve a collective bargaining agreement, and may remain in contact with members through servicing programs.


National Press Secretary

This position assists the Communications Department in overseeing press strategies for the organization. This position will develop, plan, and implement media outreach plans that support the UFCW International Union in its organizing, bargaining, and political efforts.


Political Director (Legislative and Political Action Department)

This position designs the UFCW member to member program including RFPs for vendors, ensures comprehensive research is done for priority races, works on overall design and development of UFCW’s mail and digital program for UFCW members and ultimately oversees UFCW’s direct member to member voter contact program. 


Secretary to the Region Director

The Secretary to the Region Director performs the clerical, secretarial, administrative and business detail for the Region 6 Director and the Executive Assistant to the Director and is responsible for keeping the physical aspects of the region office running efficiently.


Senior Political Coordinator

The Senior Political Coordinator, in coordination with local unions, is responsible for building out electoral, legislative, fundraising and activist programs under the direction of the Director.


U.S. Payroll Staff Accountant

The U.S. Payroll Staff Accountant processes U.S. payroll and prepares financial reports by applying accounting principles within the Accounting Department. They handle various payroll functions, ensuring compliance with both U.S. and Canadian payroll regulations.
