The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) is a labor union that represents 1.3 million hard-working men and women in the U.S. and Canada. We are a 501(c)(5) nonprofit organization that believes in the power of ordinary people coming together to improve their lives and make a lasting difference for all working people.

The UFCW is headquartered in downtown Washington, D.C. but staff work closely with local unions to organize and support our members across the U.S. and Canada.

Open Positions

Senior Political Coordinator – LAPAD

The UFCW is seeking a Senior Political Coordinator, who in coordination with local unions, would be responsible for building out electoral, legislative, fundraising and activist programs under the direction of the Director. The Senior Political Coordinator will also assess candidate viability, priority races, and will meet with potential candidates to ensure they understand UFCW’s issues in collaboration with local unions. This position is also assigned to work with locals on building out their electoral programs and legislative priorities.


Assistant Political Director – LAPAD

The UFCW is seeking an Assistant Political Director to build, implement and maintain systems of accountability for the UFCW’s member-to-member electoral program. They also assist with implementation of the federal and state legislative grassroots and grasstops engagement of local union leaders and members, while creating a comprehensive tracking system for these activities.  The Assistant Political Director works directly with and supervises UFCW’s regional political coordinators to ensure they are reaching program goals.


Assistant Communications Director – Digital

The UFCW is seeking an Assistant Communications Director to assist the Communications Director by developing social and digital media strategy, including overseeing UFCW’s texting and email programs. It is a leadership position which requires creating short- and long-term planning, as well as measuring and tracking impact on website and social platforms.


Senior Research Associate – National Strategic Retail Department

The UFCW is seeking curious, open-minded researchers to use well-researched information to develop and execute comprehensive campaigns. The Senior Research Associate is responsible for researching public and private corporations with minimal supervision, in order to develop and execute strategies for confronting corporate power under the guidance and direction of senior staff.


Data Engineer (Infrastructure) – Data & Analytics

The UFCW Data & Analytics Department is seeking an experienced, innovative Data Engineer (Infrastructure) to design and build the data systems needed to support UFCW’s mission.  The position calls for expertise in maintaining scalable database infrastructure. Collaborating with UFCW’s team of developers and strategists, this individual will be responsible for enabling UFCW’s data systems to be used across the organization for enhanced member communication, membership recruitment, and political campaigns.
