Get Access to Energy Assistance Programs

January 28, 2022

As part of the American Rescue Plan, funds have been allocated to assist working Americans with home energy costs.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program helps low-income households pay their home heating and cooling bills. It operates in every state and the District of Columbia, as well as within most tribal reservations and U.S. territories.

The American Rescue Plan more than doubled this program’s funding, which will help more households who are having trouble affording their energy bills.

Visit the LIPHEAP website or call 1-866-674-6327 to find the contact information for your local Low-Income Energy Office and other resources for energy assistance.

Requirements and eligibility for this program may vary by state, tribal reservation and territory.

Emergency Rental Assistance Program

The federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program can provide help with past-due utility bills or ongoing assistance with energy costs to help distressed renters avoid shut-offs and keep current on expenses.

Visit the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau website and enter the state you live in to find a program in your area.
