UFCW Statement on Biden Administration’s Marijuana Reform Actions

October 6, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), which represents 1.3 million workers in grocery stores, meatpacking plants, and other essential industries across North America, released the following statement on the steps President Joe Biden took today on marijuana reform.

UFCW International President Marc Perrone released the following statement:

“Today, President Biden took a monumental step in righting the wrongs of cannabis prohibition. As America’s cannabis union representing workers from seed to sale, UFCW applauds the Biden Administration in making a decision that will have a lasting, transformational, and positive impact on the lives of so many Americans.

“Hopefully, today’s pardon and the additional directive to examine cannabis’s federal drug classification are the first steps in finally moving towards full federal repeal of cannabis prohibition. Doing so will be a critical part of the effort to protect cannabis workers in their workplaces and establish a fair, equitable cannabis industry that provides family-sustaining jobs.”

The UFCW is the largest private sector union in the United States. UFCW International represents 1.3 million professionals and their families in healthcare, grocery stores, meatpacking, food processing, retail shops and other industries.
