UFCW International Statement on Continued Kroger Payroll Issues

December 22, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), which represents 1.3 million workers in grocery stores, meatpacking plants, and other essential industries across North America, released the following statement regarding the continued issues with Kroger and Kroger-owned banners’ payroll system.

Since issues first began being reported months ago, UFCW International and impacted Local Unions around the country have taken necessary steps to address the persistent payroll issues, including direct engagement with the company, class action grievances, lawsuits, and formal Unfair Labor Practice charges filed with the NLRB.

UFCW International President Marc Perrone said:

“Our union at the national and local level has engaged with Kroger for months now to address the ongoing, persistent, and increasingly dire payroll issues that our members across the country have been experiencing. Now, well into the holiday season and despite repeated assurances from Kroger that the majority of issues have been resolved, we continue to hear from our Local Unions that thousands of members did not receive their most recent paycheck.

“This is simply unacceptable. Our members, who keep Kroger stores stocked and running during the busiest, most profitable time of the year, deserve to come to work with the assurance that they will be paid in full and on time. Working Americans across the country are all dealing with the impact of inflation and one missed paycheck is enough to throw most households into uncertainty.

“It is beyond time that Kroger steps up and takes this issue more seriously. UFCW and our Local Unions are demanding that Kroger makes sure that every single one of our members receives every cent they are owed and that this issue is permanently resolved going into the new year.”
