Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), which represents 1.3 million frontline workers in food and retail, condemned the senseless act of violence at a Memphis Kroger store, which is represented by UFCW Local 1529.

UFCW International President Marc Perrone released the following statement:

“As the union for the hard-working men and women who work at the Kroger store in Memphis, we are heartbroken that another act of senseless violence has occurred at a grocery store. There are no words that can express the impact these horrific acts of violence have on workers, our union members, and our customers. No one in any part of Memphis or America should have to face violence at work or in their community, and we, as a nation, must do more to prevent these acts of violence from ever occurring.

We are working closely with our Local Union to provide any assistance we can to all those affected and will be there to help all our essential union grocery workers and their families recover as best they can from this horrific act of violence.
