UFCW Celebrates Cannabis Workers & Recent Labor Wins on 4/20

April 22, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC –  Today, America’s largest cannabis union, United Food and Commercial Workers International, released a statement celebrating labor wins in the industry and cannabis workers on a day when many customers are legally partaking in the high-quality products union workers produce. Earlier this week, workers at Terrascend in Michigan voted yes to unionizing with UFCW. Additionally, cannabis workers at two other locations filed for union recognition this week: Fine Fettle in Connecticut and the RISE location in Massachusetts.

These workers joined a growing movement of cannabis workers building power with their coworkers for a brighter future in the industry. Over the last decade, UFCW has organized over 300 dispensaries and grow facilities across the country. This year alone, the union has supported workers’ union efforts in 35 different locations.

UFCW International President Marc Perrone released the following statement:

“We applaud the cannabis workers choosing to join our union family this week. The UFCW has spent over a decade in this emerging industry, advocating for workers and fighting to establish critical labor protections to ensure that, as the industry grows, cannabis industry jobs are safe, equitable, and family-sustaining. As consumers across the country take part in this unofficial holiday, remember the workers help grow, prepare, sell, and deliver the quality products you enjoy. At the end of the day, it is cannabis workers who make this industry run and they deserve the essential protection  and benefits that a union contract provides. UFCW looks forward to helping more workers  organize their workplaces and make their voices heard.”
