UFCW Statement on State of the Union Address

March 8, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), which represents 1.2 million essential workers in grocery stores, meatpacking plants, and other essential industries across North America, released the following statement regarding President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.

UFCW International President Marc Perrone released the following statement:

“No President has fought harder for working people than President Joe Biden. While our members have been keeping our food supply chain running and providing essential services across the nation, President Biden has been fighting for historic victories for America’s working people.

“Food prices are at a record high and our members witness that firsthand every day when they go to work. President Biden is right that consumers and our members cannot afford to keep paying more while getting less.

“Tonight, President Biden made it clear that the only viable vision for our country’s future is one that starts with standing together to build up our working class. The UFCW remains committed to fulfilling that vision, not just for our members, but for all retail, meatpacking, and food processing workers.”
