Wisconsin Co-op Workers Stand Together for a Better Contract

March 30, 2022

Over 50 UFCW Local 1473 members who work at People’s Food Co-op in La Crosse, Wis., ratified a new contract on March 8 that strengthens wages and improves benefits.

The three-year contract includes a ratification raise of $1.30 to $1.50 per hour for all current members, and new minimum start rates between $13.50 and $14.85 with generous annual increases over the life of the contract. The contract also includes a paid union orientation so that new members can learn about the value of belonging to our union family and the benefits and discounts available to them as UFCW members. In addition, the contract includes a new annual shoe reimbursement of up to $100.

“This bargaining committee was a truly united team,” said UFCW Local 1473 President Jake Bailey. “They were sent to the table to bring back the very best offer and that is exactly what they did. This is a perfect example of what true solidarity can accomplish.”
