Grocery Workers in Oklahoma Join Local 1000

May 8, 2024

On April 16, grocery workers at Anthony’s Foods in Meeker, Okla., joined UFCW Local 1000 for the better wages and benefits that come with a union contract. This organizing win marks the first unit of Anthony Food’s workers to be represented by UFCW Local 1000.

The nine workers, who stock shelves and work in the produce, dairy, and frozen food divisions at the store, joined UFCW Local 1000 because they were concerned about job security and wanted a voice in the workplace. The campaign to organize these workers included meeting with the workers on site at the store and talking to them about their right to join a union under the National Labor Relations Act and gain a voice in the workplace.

“By voting ‘yes,’ I am most excited about having employee representation, job security, stable work hours, and respect from our employer,” said Anthony Food’s employee Kathy Parke.
