Grissom Air Reserve Base Workers in Indiana Join Local 700

July 16, 2021

Workers with Phoenix Management at Grissom Air Reserve Base near Kokomo, Ind., recently joined UFCW Local 700 to strengthen their jobs and build a better life. The new members of UFCW Local 700 work in base supply, vehicle management, property management, and fuel management.

Phoenix Management, which is the base operations and support services contractor for Grissom Air Reserve Base, agreed to neutrality in the union election. After the union was recognized, UFCW Local 700 representatives negotiated a first contract that was approved by the new members this June. The two-year contract increases pay, adds a 10 percent night premium, and protects affordable, quality health care. The contract also awards vacation time more quickly, increases paid leave, and provides more job security should there be a change in management

“We are proud to welcome these new members into our union family,” said UFCW International Vice President and Local 700 President Joe Chorpenning. “With our new contract, members are already seeing the value of being part of our union. The new contract also lays a strong foundation to continue building better lives for themselves and for their families.”
