Honoring Workers: UFCW Observes Workers Memorial Day

April 28, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), America’s largest private sector union representing 1.2 million essential workers in grocery, meatpacking, food processing, retail, and other essential industries across North America, commemorates Workers Memorial Day, the international annual day of remembrance, honoring workers who have died or been injured in the workplace.

UFCW International President Milton Jones released the following statement:

“Every worker deserves to return home safely at the end of the day with their health and well-being intact.

“This Workers Memorial Day, the UFCW stands in solidarity with the families, co-workers, and communities who carry the pain of those who have lost their lives or sustained injuries at work. We must honor those who have died or been injured with action—by confronting threats to workplace safety wherever they arise, from the halls of government to the factory floor.

“In the fight to improve workplace safety, the UFCW will continue to organize more workers, secure strong contracts with workplace protections, and raise standards for every worker in North America.”
