Who We Are

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) is a labor union that represents 1.2 million hard-working men and women in the U.S. and Canada. We are a 501(c)(5) nonprofit organization that believes in the power of ordinary people coming together to improve their lives and make a lasting difference for all working people.

Why UFCW?

As the largest private sector labor organization, we are looking for candidates to join our team who will bring innovative methods and cutting edge ideas to help grow our diverse membership base, support workers’ rights and brand the UFCW as the union for workers in the grocery, retail, packing and processing, health care, cannabis and winery and distillery industries. Ideal candidates will bring their strong knowledge base and expertise to expand the UFCW’s reach across multiple industries with the goal of making our union family stronger.

The UFCW is headquartered in downtown Washington, D.C. but staff work closely with local unions to organize and support our members across the U.S. and Canada.

Open Positions

Assistant Director of Human Resources

The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Director in the implementation and daily administration of human resources policies, procedures, and systems which includes job analysis and job descriptions, recruitment and placement, training and development, compensation, attendance, labor and employee relations, managing the workflow of the office and supervising the office staff.


Application Support Specialist

The United Food Commercial Workers International Union, (UFCW) a powerful voice for working men and women, is seeking an Applications Support Specialist to support software applications used by UFCW staff.  Software applications support UFCW staff comprises the majority of the job. This position is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.


Confidential Secretary

The Confidential Secretary performs administrative duties, secretarial support, and business work of a highly confidential and sensitive nature for the President’s Office.


Digital Ads Specialist

The team seeks an enthusiastic Digital Ads Specialist to accelerate UFCW’s organizing communications with workers–online and in the field–through creative paid marketing campaigns. This is an opportunity for an experienced professional to take the lead in building our union’s digital marketing program and developing online strategy to reach potential members. 


Executive Secretary

The Executive Secretary performs administrative duties, clerical support and business work of a highly confidential and sensitive nature for the President’s Office and assists the Secretaries and Administrative Assistant to the President in the President’s Office as needed.


General Office Clerk V

The General Office Clerk V position performs essential, diverse and back-up functions as assigned by the Director of Operational Support and Services. This position is responsible for various UFCW inventories. This position performs back-up coverage for certain functions in the  Shipping,  Printing and Receiving Office.


Graphic and Production Designer

The Graphic Designer/Production Designer supports the activities of the Communications Department by producing and designing creative deliverables and other materials in support of UFCW organizing, collective bargaining and political efforts.


Records Manager

Coordinates and maintains UFCW’s records including organization, storage, preservation and thorough review, interpretation and adherence of the UFCW’s Official Retention Schedule, which promotes compliance with record retention laws and regulations, facilitates the litigation discovery process when needed, protects proprietary and other organization information and increases organizational effectiveness through better record-keeping and best retrieval practices.


Records Secretary

The Record Secretary is responsible for the administrative and accounting support the International provides to local unions for financial assistance and picketing programs.  The Record Secretary processes the payments and maintains the records of financial transactions relating to expense reports for field staff.


Senior Benefits Assistant

The Senior Benefits Assistant assists in the administration of the UFCW Pension Plan by conducting salary audits and finalizing benefit calculations.  These key functions constitute a significant portion of the overall responsibilities of this position.


Senior Political Coordinator – Region 6

The Senior Political Coordinator also assesses candidate viability, priority races, and meets with potential candidates to ensure they understand UFCW’s issues in collaboration with local unions. This position is also assigned to work with locals on building out their electoral programs and legislative priorities.
