WASHINGTON – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), which represents 1.2 million essential workers across North America, released the following statement regarding the presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis and other American cities.
UFCW International President Milton Jones said:
“Yesterday’s killing of Renee Nicole Good at the hands of ICE marked a dark day for our country and left the Twin Cities community traumatized. Happening blocks away from multiple UFCW-represented grocery stores, Renee was a neighbor of UFCW members and should be alive today.
“From Los Angeles to Chicago to Charlotte, the actions of ICE have struck fear into essential workers across this country. These are people who are simply trying to provide for their families and support their communities, but now must worry about violence reaching their stores or being detained on the way to their shift.
“Communities and local economies cannot thrive unless people feel safe. ICE must end the chaos, withdraw from Minneapolis and other cities and states, and allow people to live and work free from fear.”
