Seafood Workers in Pennsylvania Ratify a New Contract

November 1, 2022 Updated: November 16, 2022

About 30 members of UFCW Local 152 who work at Samuels & Son Seafood in Philadelphia ratified a new contract on Oct. 5 that strengthens wages and protects benefits. Samuels & Son Seafood specializes in high-quality, wholesale seafood, and these workers are employed as fish cutters and packers. UFCW Local 152 also represents the drivers and dockworkers at Samuels & Son Seafood.

The three-year contract includes an immediate wage increase and annual across-the-board increases. The contract also maintains affordable health care. Finally, the contract allows shop stewards time to meet with new employees for a “new member orientation.” During this time, stewards will have an opportunity to formally introduce themselves and explain the union difference, including the collective bargaining agreement, the benefits of their contract, and the many other benefits and discounts available as a union member.

Members of the Negotiating Committee included Director of Collective Bargaining Dan Ross; Union Representative Matte Kane; Chief Steward Ernest Dunmore; and Master Cutter Anthonio Fontanez.
