Lush’s very foundations rest on being an ethical company. They claim to have a squeaky-clean brand that focuses on ethical beauty products and fair treatment, but they’ve been union busting aggressively and trying to stop us from growing our union.
Actions speak louder than words. Lush needs to start living out the ethical standard they claim to uphold. Sign our petition and tell Lush to STOP union busting and fighting our union.
The way Lush has been treating our union reveals an ugly reality about their priorities and their true nature. For too long, they’ve been union busting and applying a double standard to their own employees. We condemn these actions because union busting is a profound violation of Lush’s so-called commitments to fair labor standards.
We’re calling for customers like you to tell Lush: act like the progressive company that’s true to your values — not just another anti-worker corporation.
How is Lush union busting?
When we started building our Union at Lush, they responded by holding anti-union meetings during work hours and distributing anti-union leaflets. These leaflets discouraged us from exercising our rights to join a union, with statements like “unions are businesses” and “signing a union card is the same as signing a 100 page contract without reading it”
Lush also suggested that anyone who supported the union was trying to trick their coworkers into signing a union card.
But the most shocking escalation happened recently, in response to our election filing at Lush in Annapolis, Maryland. After Lush found out we wanted to unionize in the Annapolis mall, they FIRED two of our coworkers on the same day in direct retaliation for supporting our union.
This behavior is unacceptable – the right to organize is a human right, and it’s shameful to see Lush using their power and wealth to undermine democratic practices in the workplace.
