We are the Union for Albertsons, Tom Thumb, United, and Market Street Workers.
For far too long, Albertsons and Tom Thumb workers across Texas have been keeping their company running and their customers happy- without getting a fair deal in return.
But just recently, hundreds of Albertsons and Tom Thumb workers across North Texas took a big first step towards getting what they deserve- by telling their company they want to join the UFCW!
UFCW, the union for grocery workers, represents 835,000 grocery store workers at major companies all across the country, including many Albertsons locations. For workers in the union, they have the right to tell their company what they need. And the company has to listen. Union members have the right to bargain with the company for the things that matter most- like consistent raises, guaranteed hours, and fair schedules.
Hundreds of Tom Thumb and Albertsons workers in Texas are already getting ready to vote YES to join the UFCW and start making things better in their stores. If you’re ready to join the movement of workers who are standing together to get the paychecks, hours, schedules, and respect they deserve, now is the time to learn more about the union that can help make it possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits of having a union at my store?
With a union contract, you and your co-workers can negotiate for benefits such as consistent raises and schedules, affordable health care, workplace safety standards, and so much more! With a union, your company can’t treat you however they want- they have to respect your union contract, which outlines how many hours you’re guaranteed per week, how much you make in annual raises, and how you can’t be disciplined unfairly.

My manager said that we shouldn’t join the union… why?
Here’s the truth- many companies don’t want workers to join a union. That’s because big companies want to have complete control over your working conditions, your wages, your hours, and your life at work. They don’t want to sit down with you and your union to negotiate for higher wages, or play by the rules you establish together.
Your manager doesn’t get to decide whether you join the UFCW. But they don’t want you to know that, so they’ll try every trick in the book to try and keep you away from learning more about what a union can do. When managers spread lies about unions, threaten you or your job, or make empty promises- that’s called union busting. Remember- you have the federally-protected right to join a union, just like other Albertsons employees have already done in other states!
And if something your manager is doing or saying to you doesn’t feel right, reach out to us. We’re here to help defend your rights, and hold the company accountable if they break the law.
My manager said that we don’t need a union because we can always ask them directly for the changes we want to see.
Managers can make all kinds of promises but the reality is that without a union contract, Albertsons can do whatever it wants, like slashing your hours, firing you without cause, making you do work outside your job description, and more.
Whenever management hears that their workers want to join a union, they’ll start promising all kinds of things. But ask yourself this- if your managers had the power to make all these changes all along, why are they just now promising to give you what you deserve?
The only way to better secure your hours, pay, and job security is to get it in writing. That’s what a union and a union contract is for! By starting a union at your store, you can turn empty promises into real guarantees.
How do I start a union at my store?
By talking to your coworkers and one of our union organizers! We are here to help you make your store a better place to work and answer all your questions. Fill out the form below to get started and connect with one of our organizers.
I’m ready to make my job better. What’s next?
That’s great! We’re ready to help. If you haven’t already, the first step is to connect with an organizer. They’ve got experience working in grocery AND making their stores better with the power of the union. They’re here to listen to you, answer your questions, and help you understand how you can form a union at your store.
Once you and your coworkers agree that starting a union would make your jobs better, you will sign support cards. Signing a support card, or “union authorization card,” is an important step in forming a union at your store. By signing the card, you are saying that you choose the UFCW to be your partner on the job and represent you to bargain for what you deserve.
Once a majority of your coworkers have signed union support cards, we will ask Albertsons to start bargaining with us. If Albertson’s refuses to do so, the cards may also be submitted to the National Labor Relations Board to request a union election. If a majority of your coworkers vote YES at the election, Albertsons will have to recognize your union and start bargaining with you on the most important things at any job- higher pay, greater respect, fairer hours, better benefits, and more.
It’s not until after you’ve negotiated your first contract with the wages, benefits, and protections you deserve, would you pay dues as a union member. And remember- would you ever vote for a contract that leaves you with less than you had before? No way. Having a strong union contract is a great way to put more money in your pocket, not less.
Albertsons and Tom Thumb workers deserve better. And with a union contract, things like yearly raises, guaranteed minimum hours, reliable scheduling, affordable healthcare, and respect on the job are just some of the ways a union can make that possible.
