Leading up to Election Day, UFCW members across the country took the time to record videos on the UFCW Votes site to share their thoughts about this election and why they exercised their right to vote.

“This election is going to matter so much for so many people, including me and you..”

“Let’s make our voices heard…”

“I just got back from voting in the 2020 election. So, if you have your ballot and you haven’t taken the time to vote yet, then go get it done! This election is going to matter so much for so many people, including me and you,” said Steven Brown, who is a member of UFCW Local 1059. “We all know about the issues that are printed on the ballot, but don’t forget about the ones that haven’t been spelled out, like racial justice and inequality in this country. We all know about it and we all understand there are issues that need to be sorted out. And we all know who is going to take care of it for us. So, let’s not wait, let’s not delay. Let’s make our voices heard and let’s make sure that we bring change to this country, the kind that it desperately needs.”

“Why vote?”

“With so much at stake in this coming election, the question is, “why vote?” It’s simple—for social and economic change,” said Emmett Cannon, who is a member of UFCW Local 1473. “Now is the time to shift the course of things dealing with health care, hazard pay, just to name a few. Let us stand and come together in unity and vote not just for a new president, but across the ballot for local and state officials, as well.”

“I voted because we need better access to affordable health care,” said Michelle Evans, who is also member of UFCW Local 1473. “We need environmental protections, not rollbacks, and we need quality education for all people. That’s why I voted, and you should, too.”

“I voted for you—for change in America.”

“I voted because I have two daughters and I want them to be able to choose whatever health care best benefits them,” said Hidi Frazier, who is a member of UFCW Local 1996. “I voted because my husband and I are both essential workers. That’s why I voted. I voted for you—for change in America.”

“It’s about all of our futures…”

“I voted for the future,” said Alex Lange, who is a member of UFCW Local 655. “I have two small children at home and am about to have a third in about a month. And for me, it’s about their future. It’s about all of our futures—all the families, all the friends, and all your coworkers—everybody’s future that we have to be worried about…. everybody’s vote matters and counts towards the greater good of what we can accomplish and what we need as workers and the protections that we need. We have to be able to fight, and the best way to do that is to vote.”
