Local 7 Members to Vote on Contract with Safeway

March 10, 2005

UFCW Local 7 grocery workers at Safeway in Denver, Colo., will vote on a contract proposed this week by the supermarket.  Safeway employees will vote by mail-in ballots, which are scheduled to be counted on March 26.

Albertsons proposed a similar contract for its Local 7 workers late yesterday, but employees are meeting today to discuss that proposal.  Both supermarkets recently revised their contracts to follow suit with the agreement ratified by King Soopers employees last weekend.

Kroger-owned King Soopers employees approved their contract agreement by a 60-percent vote through mail-in ballots.  That contract is similar to other supermarket agreements recently ratified in northern California, Las Vegas and Seattle, ensuring affordable family health care.
