Northern California Locals Reach Tentative Agreement with Supermarkets
Denver Supermarkets Ask FMCS to Draft Contract Agreement

January 24, 2005

San Francisco Bay Area UFCW Local Unions and supermarkets Safeway, Ralphs (Kroger) and Albertsons reached a tentative agreement late last night.  The locals are now scheduling informational meetings for grocery workers to discuss contract provisions, as well as setting up procedures for voting on the contract.

Locals 101, 373r, 428, 588, 648, 839, 870 and 1179 had been negotiating a new contract with supermarkets since fall.

Denver Update

Supermarkets Safeway and Albertsons have asked the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services (FMCS) to draft a contract agreement with grocery employees represented by UFCW Local 7 in Denver, Colo.

The supermarkets follow the lead of King Soopers (Kroger), which made the same request earlier this month.  On January 18, that request was voted on by Local 7 bargaining committee members who work at King Soopers.  The vote passed by a 90-percent margin to authorize the FMCS to craft a settlement affecting workers and King Soopers’ stores.
