Forklift Operators: Make Sure Your Training Has Been Updated

New OSHA training requirements for forklifts and other powered industrial trucks are now in effect. Companies should have provided initial training and evaluation for all current employees by Dec.1, 1999. All new employees hired after Dec. 1, 1999 must receive training and evaluation prior to being assigned to operate a forklift or other powered industrial truck. The training must consist of both formal and hands-on instruction. Lack of adequate operator training, or inadequate training, is responsible for a large percentage of the injuries and deaths that result from forklift use.

If you are operating a forklift or powered industrial truck and haven't had updated training, you could be at risk of injury.
