TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE CONGRESSIONAL HISPANIC CAUCUS

Dear Member of Congress:

On behalf of the 1.4 million members of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), we are writing to express our thanks for your assistance in working to achieve justice for workers.

Your willingness to join with us to move the Department of Labor (DOL) to guarantee that workers do not have to pay for personal protective equipment in order to ensure safety on the job, demonstrates a clear understanding of the importance of this issue. Payment for personal protective equipment is an issue that affects some of America’s most vulnerable low-wage workers, including Hispanic workers, in dangerous industries. The Bush Administration’s lack of commitment, to date, in securing this for these workers is shameful.

This coalescing of the labor movement and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) is a powerful one that helps to improve the lives of all workers—immigrant and non-immigrant, union and non-union. We hope to work with you on other issues of mutual concern to improve the lives of those who seek our assistance. In the meantime, we will continue to strive to make this regulation the law of the land.

Once again, thank you, and we look forward to working with you further in the future.

Sincerely,

International President

Douglas H. Dority

International Secretary-Treasurer
