Receptionist: “Good morning, Representative/Senator ________’s office.”
Caller: Good morning. My name is ______ and I’m a member of UFCW local ___ living in _______. Is there someone there I can talk to about ________(state the issue. For example, minimum wage).
Receptionist: “Yes, let me put you through.” (If the receptionist does not provide you with the name, make sure you ask for the first and last name of the person to whom you speak).
Staffer: “May I help you?”
Caller: My name is ______. I’m a member of UFCW Local___ in ____ and I would like to encourage the Representative/Senator to vote in favor of HR # (House bill) or S# (Senate bill) ____ (and state the name of the bill if there is one). The bill is going to the House/Senate floor this week. Do you know the Representative/Senator’s position?
Staffer: “Yes, he is in favor of the legislation. I’ll let the Senator/Representative know of your concerns on this matter. Could I get your name and address so the member can respond to you?”
Caller: Provide your name and address.
