AMERICANS HAVE SPOKEN:   WE WANT REAL HEALTH CARE REFORM NOW!

UFCW members, along with thousands of other Americans, made history over the past year by participating in the Citizens Health Care Working Groups held across the country. It was the first national dialogue on health care reform in more than a decade. UFCW members were vocal and visible about the need for comprehensive health care reform.

Now the Citizens Health Care Working Group has released their report, with six key recommendations:

• Universal health care—health care for all Americans, by 2012
• A core benefit package for all Americans
• Protection against soaring health care costs
• Development and expansion of integrated community health networks
• Efforts to improve the quality of care and to reduce inefficiency in the system
• Restructuring the way that palliative care, hospice, and other end-of-life services are financed and provided.

The report also includes stated values and principals. These add to up to the belief that all Americans should have a set of health coverage benefits guaranteed by law. George Grob, the executive director of the Citizens' Health Care Working Group, said that these values and principals were just as important as the recommendations.

Thanks to UFCW members and other concerned Americans, Congress and the President will finally hear the overwhelming call for real health care reform. They will know that Americans are united in our opinion: we believe that all Americans deserve affordable, quality health care.
