Leading by Example: Stewardship
Our 1.3 million members are not only our friends, neighbors, and colleagues, they are our partners in creating a better life for their fellow workers. Every day, we take great pride in the quality and service we provide our customers and our communities. Our commitment to excellence extends beyond the workplace, and we’re dedicated to serving our customers and improving the communities in which we work, live, and raise our families.
Being a member of the UFCW is not a one-way street, our members are leaders in the fight to build better jobs. UFCW Membership comes with access to training programs and leadership opportunities that allow our members to take on more active roles as stewards of their workplaces.
Stewards are not just leaders in the workplace, they stand up for their co-workers and prove that we are stronger when we stand together.
Being There When You Need Us
UFCW Locals, staff, and our members are there to lend a helping hand to those in the community who need it, whether it’s by raising money or by volunteering their skills, time, or homes to someone who needs shelter.
In some of the worst natural disasters, our amazing members stood up and turned out in droves to help those most affected by Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy. Family members lean on each other in times of need and the UFCW family is no different. When hard-working people and their communities are affected by tough times, it is our duty to lend any support we can. The effects of such disasters can be devastating and far-reaching, but our members prove the difference we can all make when we work together to help families in need.
Taking Care of Our Communities
In a nation where no one should go hungry, our members not only work hard to support their families, they help feed millions of working people and their children with the food made by union members. They help feed the hungry through our partnership with the National Letter Carrier Association’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive, as well as by working with our employers to donate food to communities in times of crisis.
I really enjoy being able to interact with my customers. I interact with my coworkers. I feel like they trust me. And it's a really big responsibility but that's probably one of my favorite things about it is that I really hold myself to a high standard so they can trust me. Brittany, UFCW Local 1518
