UFCW EXECUTIVE BOARD BACKS GORE
UFCW President Doug Dority Urges Other AFL-CIO Unions to Support Federation Endorsement

The 1.4 million member UFCW today threw its support to Al Gore's run for the presidency in a unanimous vote of the giant union's 50 member executive board in Los Angeles.

The action should guarantee an AFL-CIO endorsement of Gore's campaign.

The UFCW vote came after a careful review of Gore's record. The Vice President has demonstrated clear leadership on key working family issues. Gore has a proven record as. . .

  • Unwavering advocate for the right of workers to have a voice in the workplace.
  • Outspoken proponent for ergonomics and other measures to protect workers' safety.
  • Unrelenting voice for health care reform that provides high quality, affordable care for working families.
  • Aggressive backer of educational reform to give all of America's children a quality education.
  • Dedicated supporter of equal opportunity for women, African Americans, Latinos, the disabled, and others who have felt the sting of discrimination.

Dority pledged to urge other AFL-CIO unions to support a federation-wide endorsement of Gore.

"He stands with working families on the issues--Al Gore is the candidate of working America," said Dority.
