Dominick's Workers Put Work and Walk Action on Hold
Safeway Offers Counter Proposal to Union Members

Dominick's union workers who had planned to launch a Work and Walk shopper information campaign today postponed the action after an encouraging development in bargaining discussions with Dominick's owner Safeway.

A representative from the Joint Labor Management committee contacted union leaders late Monday to inform them that a counter proposal to the union's offer of last week would be forthcoming from the company this afternoon.

"We see this as a step in the right direction," remarked Region 6 Director and UFCW International Vice President Kevin Williamson. "Our objective since the negotiations first began has been to explore how we can reach a fair settlement that protects UFCW members' family health care benefits and living standards. It looks like Safeway is now interested in participating in this process."
