Union for 120,000 Workers in Battleground States like Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona Joins Biden in Call for Unity

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), which represents 1.3 million food and retail workers, applauded the news that Joe Biden has been declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election. UFCW represents more than 120,000 workers in battleground states and played a central role in mobilizing union workers across the country to vote in the election.

UFCW International President Marc Perrone released the following statement:

“Today, all Americans must unite to congratulate Joe Biden as the next President of the United States. Millions of hardworking Americans voted in historic numbers in this election, making their voices heard in a call for a return to unity.

“This election proves the power that hardworking men and women have, including over a million UFCW members, in shaping a stronger future for this nation.

“Regardless of who we voted for, now is the time to heal and bridge our divisions. We are all Americans first, and we should join together to wish President-elect Joe Biden success – for his success will ensure the success of this great nation.”

Background

UFCW represents 1.3 million workers, including 120,000 workers in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and North Carolina. A new report released by AFL-CIO highlighted that Vice President Joe Biden won 58 percent of union workers in the 2020 presidential election, thanks to UFCW and other labor unions mobilizing their members to vote.

UFCW has been a leading national voice in the push to protect frontline workers in grocery stores, meatpacking plants, and other essential businesses. Vice President Biden’s call for a national mask mandate was praised by UFCW, which has called on the governors of all 50 states to require masks in retail and other public spaces.
