Wilson Workers: David
Wilson Workers: David

David Bryant
I’ve worked for Smithfield for four years. It’s a good job, but I want a union because the company is so one sided. Their policies benefit them, but not the employees. We have no say on the job. No voice. They’re interested in the product getting out, not about the people who work for them. If you have carpal tunnel, they’ll find a way to fire you. For example, if you are injured and you go to the nurse—even if you have never been injured on the job before, they treat you like you’re pulling their chain.
When we tried to organize in a union, the company held meetings with all the employees. Everyone had to attend. They told us to vote no for the union and showed films about companies that had closed in the past and threatened, “this is why we don’t need a union here.” They hand billed against the union and talked against the union the whole time
