6th National Low-Income Immigrant Rights Conference

2Natl Meeting
UFCW at a National Meeting on Immigration and Civil Rights

For more than 100 years, the UFCW and its predecessor unions have been fighting to organize, represent and improve the wages and working conditions of immigrant workers—particularly in the meatpacking and food processing industries.

Recent federal immigration decisions have had a direct affect on the workers we represent and last year’s immigration raids on six meatpacking plants in America’s heartland—a raid that swept up over 12,000 U.S. citizens, legal residents and other immigrants and stripped them of their constitutional rights—further underscores the need to reform our country’s immigration policy.

On December 6-8, 2007, the National Immigration Law Center will host its 6th National Low-Income Immigrant Rights Conference at the Doubletree Hotel Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia.

Entitled “Bridging Communities, Renewed Strength and Promise,” the conference will bring together community leaders, organizers, attorneys and advocates from around the country to share information and develop strategies around some of the core issues affecting low-income immigrants.

The conference will feature training sessions and workshops around key immigration issues,
including lessons learned from recent immigration raids and an overview of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s new rule for employers who receive Social Security “no match” letters.  Conference sponsors include the AFL-CIO and Change to Win.

You are encouraged to attend this important conference.
