Cheers Urgently needed: your voice.

We are at a historic moment in the fight for health care reform. Never have we been so close to passing legislation that will help bring the real change we need. But while we should be proud of how far we've come together, we can't stop now.

Urgently needed: your voice. Our Senators need to hear from us and know working Americans support quality health care that shares responsibility for reform among individuals, employers, and the government.

GET INFORMED. GET INVOLVED.

HEALTH CARE HEADLINES

THE UFCW BELIEVES THERE ARE THREE KEY COMPONENTS TO HEALTH CARE REFORM:

I support Health Care for America Now

  • THE RESTORATION OF CHOICE AND COST-CONTROLS in the insurance industry through a public health insurance option;
  • SHARED RESPONSIBLITY among individuals, employers, insurance companies, and the government;
  • NO NEW TAX ON HEALTH BENEFITS that would place additional stress on the already-struggling middle class.

June 25 Rally for Real Health Care Reform

Over 10,000 union members, community, health and faith activists as well as small business owners traveled to the nation’s capitol June 25 to tell Congress to pass real health care reform that works for real people.

Sponsored by Health Care for America Now! the mid-day Capitol Hill rally was followed by lobbying visits and several town hall meetings.

President Obama and many congressional Democrats are backing health care reform that brings down costs, provides quality care for all and includes a public health care option, among other key principles. But the insurance industry and big pharmaceutical companies are desperately trying to weaken health care reform and protect their soaring profits and near monopoly control of the health care market.

"CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS ARE ALL ABOUT HEALTH CARE NOW.  Unless something happens for health care nationally, I don't see it getting any better."

  CITIZEN'S HEALTH CARE WORKING GROUP

From 2003 to 2006, the UFCW worked with the congressionally mandated Citizens’ Health Care Working Group to hold an unprecedented nationwide dialogue with the American people.

Congress directed the group to prepare a report to create solid ideas and recommendations for building a health care system that works for all Americans.
