I've been a member of UFCW Local 464A at Pathmark in New Jersey for about a year. Before this job, I'd never been a Union member.
The difference is amazing. On other jobs we had little or no benefits. Some of my bosses would even lie about how many hours we worked and short us pay. If we were accused of something there was nothing you could do - most of the time you were sent home (if you were lucky)or straight-out fired (if you weren't).
Being a member of Union has put an end to all that. My Local has an excellent benefits package for members, and we even have Union reps. that visit the store and explain to us our rights and how to take care of problems. We get paid for every minute we work. Best of all, I can't wait for my very first "paid vacation"!! What a concept......
I'm very proud to be a member of the UFCW, and can only hope that other workers will organize so they can get the same benefits we do.
