Fair scheduling gives flexibility to live your life.

Part of building a better life means being able to take time to rest, spend time with your family, get an education for a better future or time to give back to your church or community. Fair scheduling and paid time off is what makes that happen and is another thing we fight for on behalf of our members.

When you’re a member of a union, your contract protects you when you need leave or time off.

It means that when you’re sick you can stay home without penalty or that you are able to take days off for that family vacation. A contract also means more reliable schedules so that you are able to have time for a life outside work.

“[UFCW] helped me get my schedule in advance. So that I could plan my life, a full month ahead of time. When you’re a single parent, the difference that makes is everything.”

Working to eliminate “Just In Time” and “On Call’ Scheduling

But we know not every worker has access to these benefits. We also know that too many workers are subject to cruel practices like “Just In Time” and “On Call” scheduling that provide no stability and no advance warning of schedules. That’s why we’ve supported efforts to require that employers provide you and every worker with fair scheduling and advanced notice of any changes.

Organize and unionize your workplace

Are you and your coworkers ready to negotiate together for bigger paychecks, stronger benefits and better lives? If you are, the steps to joining the UFCW are simple.
