We work in all kinds of stores and factories and service establishments. Some 35,000 of us work in chain and independent drug stores throughout North America. Some 7,500 of us work in banks and financial institutions. You may have purchased or rented a car from some of the 3,500 of us who work in automobile dealerships or in car rental agencies. Some of us may drive your kids to school in school bus, or take care of you when you are away from home in the airport lounges and the hotel and motels that you eat and sleep in. We know you have enjoyed the fancy chocolates we make and the chips and snacks and bakery products we produce every day.

Breweries, Distilleries, and Wineries
If you consume alcoholic beverages, it's likely that you've enjoyed some of the malted, fermented, and distilled products that UFCW members make. Roughly 12,000 of us work in production and distribution of beer, wine, and distilled beverages across the United States and Canada. We do the brewing, distilling and wine making, and we also work in the bottling operations, packaging facilities, and warehouses. Our products are sent on to restaurants, clubs, supermarkets, and liquor stores around the world. A quick look at our list of key employers will show some familiar names.

Garments & Other Textiles
Nearly 20,000 of us work in apparel and other textile factories making the clothes that America wears. We make blue jeans, other trousers, overalls and other work clothing, sportswear, and childrens' and infants' outerwear. We operate the machines that make, mark, cut, and process fabrics. Others among us are sewing machine operators, who sew the pieces of fabric together into finished clothing. We are also busy inspecting and packaging the clothes for shipping to department stores, where retail UFCW workers are ready to place them on the racks and ring them up at the cash register.

Health Care
The UFCW represents nearly 100,000 working men and women in the health care profession throughout North America. We work in hospitals, nursing homes, and medical and dental laboratories, and we deliver home health care services. We are registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, unit assistants, certified nursing assistants, pharmacists, technicians, and caretakers. Through our union, we have improved safety in the workplace and tackled a myriad of issues, including restructurings, staffing levels, and compensation. In addition to being committed to workplace issues, the UFCW periodically sponsors training and education seminars to promote professional development among health care employees.

Insurance and Finance
The UFCW represents over 5,000 working men and women at some of the largest insurance providers. We work in real estate, finance, and insurance, providing a variety of financial services and products, including life insurance, health insurance, investment plans, pension and savings plans, and home mortgages.

Public Service
Nearly 15,000 of us work in the public service. We are in the neighborhood driving city buses, policing the streets, taking care of our parks. We are professionals, administrative and technical workers. We operate the public systems and services that run our towns, cities and states.  The UFCW brings us together for strength at the bargaining table in order to win better contracts. The commitment and resources of the UFCW give us the power in Washington, DC to tackle issues important to public workers, from contracting out to the privatization.
