Food Processing Plants
The UFCW's food processing members make everything from pet food to ketchup to frozen dinners. We number nearly 300,000 people strong and come from every part of the U.S. and Canada. More than 170,000 of us work in meat, poultry, and seafood processing. We link farmers with consumers by processing the fresh fruits, vegetables and meat products into the products and meals bought by supermarket shoppers. We preserve and can fruits and vegetables; prepare milk, cheese and other dairy products; make breakfast cereal; and bake and fry snack foods. We also cook, season and freeze whole meals that busy supermarket shoppers can finish at home.
Our union has helped us gain improvements and protections on the-job, from working conditions to job security, allowing us to make a decent living while providing consumers with valued products.
