Collective Bargaining Department

The Collective Bargaining Department works in concert with UFCW regions and local unions to protect and improve the jobs and wages of UFCW members.

Over nearly a decade of radically shifting economic, political, and industry conditions, the UFCW has upheld affordable health care and real pensions for its members, a testament to the strength and solidarity of UFCW members and local unions.

The Collective Bargaining Department provides timely negotiating assistance to local unions with realtime, on-the-ground support. The department works with other UFCW departments and offices to help local unions analyze bargaining options, assist with web-based research, and deliver a consistent bargaining message to mobilize UFCW members and their communities in support of bargaining efforts. In addition, a series of training sessions for Collective Bargaining Representatives conducted by the department addresses ways to aid local unions effectively.

At every step in the bargaining process, the UFCW is prepared to proactively anticipate problems and has constructive solutions ready to define how issues are approached at the negotiating table. Forged through preparation and comprehensive bargaining coordination, the wages and benefits won in UFCW contracts offer powerful incentives for workers to organize for a voice on the job with the UFCW.
