International Secretary-Treasurer Anthony M. Perrone
Anthony M. Perrone
International Secretary-Treasurer
Anthony “Marc” Perrone brings nearly four decades of experience and union activism to his position as Secretary-Treasurer where he serves as the UFCW’s fiscal watchdog and the custodian of members’ hard-earned dues money. Marc takes to heart the knowledge that as our union’s financial strength grows, so does our strength at the bargaining table, our political voice on the issues that matter most to working people, and especially our ability to organize workers into unions—so they can earn dignity on the job and the opportunity to pursue a middle class life.
In his capacity as Secretary-Treasurer, Marc’s primary responsibility is monitoring the finances of the International Union. He is also responsible for the stewardship of the pension funds that will enable UFCW members to live out their retirement years in security and with dignity.
As the International’s chief administrative officer, Marc is streamlining the UFCW’s financial transition to a growth-oriented union by channeling finances toward growth, growth support, and union administration departments. His leadership and financial guidance is facilitating the UFCW’s ability to meet its new growth priorities—putting more resources and staff into organizing.
Marc joined the Retail Clerks—which later became the UFCW—in 1971 while working as a courtesy clerk at Weingarten’s food store in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Since that time, he has held various positions within the UFCW, including Region 1-Eastern Director and National Director of Strategic Programs, Collective Bargaining and Organizing, among others. He was elected to the UFCW International Union Executive Committee in February 2000. Marc was elected Secretary-Treasurer in 2004.
He has a B.A. in Labor Studies and has continued his education in the capital markets through programs at the Wharton School of Business. He is a regular participant in national and international forums that include leading U.S. and European financial analysts.
