Textile and Garment Council
Since its formation in 2000, the UFCW Textile and Garment (TAG) Council has aggressively confronted challenges raised by the shift of domestic manufacturing to off-shore sourcing. By working with UFCW local unions across the country in traditional textile and garment industries as well as in nursing homes, hospitals, food distribution and retail, the TAG Council provides a voice that protects the job security, wages and benefits of UFCW members.
Millions of U.S. and Canadian jobs have been shipped overseas by corporations that do not hesitate to chase bottom of the barrel wages. They regularly contract with producers in countries where child labor and sweatshops are prevalent. The TAG Council actively promotes the union label on all products so consumers know that the dollars they spend are supporting good domestic jobs. A united TAG Council is committed to helping UFCW members win good wages and living standards, as well as job security, so workers in North America have the strength and voice to shape their future.
