The zoning board in Butchertown, Ky., has approved JBS-Swift & Co.’s petition to expand its pork plant there, according to WHAS-TV 11 in Louisville.
The decision came despite the protest of neighboring residents and a violation of the project’s initial permit late last year. (See Ky. town mulls relocating JBS pork plant, Meatingplace, Sept. 1, 2009.)
The decision also reportedly came at the end of an 11-hour board meeting, with the caveats that JBS must spend $140,000 on landscaping and limit daily slaughter to 10,500 hogs.
